Elementary music theory is a course designed to introduce our youngest school aged musicians to the joys and creativity of music theory. This course utilizes a fun sticker/activity book. Your course instructor will take each student through the workbook, explaining step by step the how's and why's of music. Supplementing the workbook will be fun interactive lessons, videos, and printable worksheets. ATTENTION: Younger students will need an adult helper for each lesson to help peel stickers from the sticker sheet, and guide through the various coloring and pencil activities in the workbook. Topics covered include, but not limited to the following: Topics covered include: note names in treble and bass clef; measures and bar lines; rhythms and note values; notes on the treble clef and bass clef, basic piano skills, time signatures, and instrument families. Each student is required to purchase a workbook and/or textbook for the class. The cost of the workbook is $6 and is available on Amazon Prime at the following link: https://a.co/d/35e1VKX This is an 8 week class beginning on September 23 and ends on November 25 (no class on Nov. 4 and 11). Each class will last 30 to 40 minutes. There will be a part 2 of this class offered in mid-to late winter. Each tuition is good for one student! Choose the family plan option if you have 2 or more students attending on the same screen. All virtual classes are audit only! About your teacher: Jim Ellis is a professional composer for film, TV, and video games. Jim also owns and operates a theater and film production studio in Harford County, MD. He studied music education at the Univ. of MD and ultimately earned a degree in music composition from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He is currently a graduate student at Berklee, studying composition for film and TV. Also appearing on his resume is professional actor, film producer, theater director and producer, and teacher. All of the classes will be recorded and available through a private cloud sharing link (recordings will only be available through the duration of the class). So no worries if you have to miss a week.
