Service Description
Music Theory 201 is a course designed for musicians who have studied music with a professional teacher for at least two years. Each student should posses an advanced understanding of how to read notes on the treble and/or bass clef staves. Students should also have intermediate to advanced skills on an instrument. This is NOT for beginning music students or those with limited experience/knowledge of music. This is part 1 of 2 in a series of 8 month long, intermediate to advanced theory instruction. Upon completion of both modules, students will be eligible for an AP Music Theory class which prepares the student to take the AP Music Theory Exam. This class meet twice per week (with exceptions) through June 21. Students are encouraged to attend as many live classes as possible. However, recordings of all classes will be made and the student can watch at a later date. Each student is required to purchase a workbook AND textbook for the class. These materials will be used throughout both modules of this course. Total cost of materials (brand new) is approximately $260. Students will also be using a free version of a professional music notation software called Sibelius First. This will introduce the student to a cutting edge, professional software that is widely used by composers and arrangers everyday (including your teacher, Mr. Jim).
